Human Rights Group Slams Diamond Lovers Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez

According to the news, Human Rights Group has slammed celebrities Beyonce Knowles and Jennifer Lopez because the pair agreed to wear diamond-encrusted jewelry at this year ceremony Golden Globes to promote the diamond industry. Contact Music reveals Beyonce and Jennifer offered a $10,000 check to be donated from the Raise Your Right Hand campaign to the African charities of their choice in order to wear diamonds to the Globes. This year, the film “Blood Diamond,” which highlights Sierra Leone’s diamond-fueled civil war during the 1990s sparked negative publicity. As you can imagine Global Witness was not happy about it, whose Combating Conflict Diamond Campaign calls on Hollywood to stop promoting the precious jewels. In other Celebrity news, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) continues to stalk Jennifer Lopez for wearing real animal fur.

It's rather disgusting if you think about Sierra Leone and the hands that got hacked off there. It's an attempt to hit back at the film. You can imagine the PR campaign that came up with it. But the industry didn't do much for the Sierra Leonean women with no right hand when all this was going on.
